The Vancouver Rise have welcomed new reinforcements to their team. This week, the Northern Super League club signed two defenders in preparation for their upcoming important match against the Halifax Tides on Saturday. Chantelle Swaby, who previously played for Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, formerly with NSL side AFC Toronto, have joined the Rise.
Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller expressed that both players bring valuable attributes to the team as they strive to position themselves for a playoff spot. Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues around the world, including the National Women’s Soccer League and France’s top division. She is known for her composure in high-pressure situations and her vocal presence on the field.
Hansen, 26, is particularly excited to return home to Vancouver. Coming from Burnaby, B.C., she feels privileged to play in front of a local audience and be close to her family once again. These signings come after the retirement of Mariah Lee, a veteran forward who decided to pursue a legal education in New York.
In addition, Vancouver bid farewell to goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan, who was loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season. With a playoff spot within reach, the Rise (5-9-1) are aiming to secure their position in the post-season. Currently trailing Halifax (6-6-3) by five points, Vancouver is determined to make a strong finish to the season.
Forward Jessica De Fillippo emphasized the importance of this phase of the season, highlighting the team’s desire to return to the playoffs and demonstrate their competitive spirit to fans and the league. The Rise are focused on proving their capabilities and earning a place in the postseason once again.
