Retired racing icon Rachael Blackmore has revealed that she and fellow jockey Brian Hayes are expecting their first child. The couple recently got married in a cozy ceremony on January 5 in West Cork after a decade-long friendship.
Rachael shared the happy news on her Instagram story, featuring a photo of her Volvo car with a baby pram in the boot, joking about the change in contents. The 36-year-old, known for her groundbreaking achievements in horse racing, retired last year with a remarkable record, including being the first female jockey to win the Grand National and leading jockey at Cheltenham.
Originally from Tipperary, Rachael amassed an impressive 575 wins during her professional racing tenure. Her retirement in May 2021 followed her victory with Minella Times at Aintree.
In addition to her historic wins, Rachael excelled at the Cheltenham Festival in 2021, securing 18 victories in key races. Her accolades also include wins at prestigious races like the Champion Hurdle and the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Honored with the World Sports Star award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards in 2021, Rachael was later inducted into Cheltenham racecourse’s hall of fame. She and Brian, who have been friends for over ten years, met during their early careers and have since built a life together, sharing a passion for racing and a close bond.
