Macklemore’s recent tour to support Palestinians has generated significant buzz, with all three shows selling out rapidly. The tour, named the Free Palestine tour, was announced by the Grammy-winning artist just last week and includes dates in Dublin, Paris, and London. While the lineup for the shows remains undisclosed, Macklemore has hinted that he will be joined by other musicians, with details to be revealed soon.
The European tour was unveiled following Macklemore’s removal as an opening act for Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour. Expressing his gratitude on Instagram, Macklemore emphasized the importance of musicians standing in solidarity with Palestine and using their platform to raise funds for the cause.
The tour is set to benefit various Palestinian aid organizations, such as Gaza Soup Kitchen, Palestinian Youth Movement, Jewish Voice for Peace, and UNRWA USA. The decision to embark on this initiative stemmed from Macklemore’s longstanding pro-Palestinian stance, which has been evident in his previous public statements.
The controversy surrounding Macklemore’s involvement in Sheeran’s tour led to the cancellation of all openers, including Sheeran’s backing band. Despite the upheaval, Sheeran addressed the situation during a show in Philadelphia, stating his reluctance to be perceived as an activist musician. Ultimately, the shows at Gillette Stadium were called off due to inclement weather.
