An attack by Israeli forces in the central Gaza Strip on Sunday resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians, including a three-year-old child, as reported by health officials. The strike, which took place near a bakery in Deir al-Balah, claimed the lives of Tayyem Hamdan, 3, and Hussam Nusair, along with causing injuries to several others.
The Israeli military stated that the airstrike targeted and eliminated a Hamas militant, accusing Nusair of instigating attacks against Israeli personnel and civilians. Hamas refrained from immediate comments on the military’s accusations.
Although a ceasefire backed by the U.S. in October had reduced major conflicts in the region, Israeli military actions persisted, citing the necessity to prevent attacks by Hamas and other Gaza-based militants. Hamas criticized Israel for breaching the ceasefire and impeding the implementation of a broader peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, which includes Israeli withdrawals and the disarmament of Hamas.
According to health officials in Gaza, over 1,300 Palestinians have lost their lives in the region since the ceasefire commenced last October, while the Israeli military reported four casualties among its soldiers.
