Consumers are in for a shock this holiday season as the prices of popular chocolate tins have skyrocketed. A trip to the supermarket revealed that both 700g tins of Cadbury Roses and Heroes are being sold for a hefty £16.50. While Nectar cardholders can snag these tins for £10, the price remains steep.
For those seeking more budget-friendly options, Sainsbury’s offers the Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Mixed Chunks Tin (60g) for £9.59 or £6.50 with a Nectar card, and a 750g tin of Quality Street for £13 or £8.50 with Nectar. Additionally, tubs of Celebrations, Heroes, and Quality Street are available for just £6 each.
Shoppers looking for even better deals should head to Tesco, where 500-550g tubs of Celebrations and Quality Street are priced at £3.95 with a Clubcard, or £4.50 without. The same tub of Heroes, priced at £16.50/£10 in Sainsbury’s, is only £7.50 with a Clubcard at Tesco, or £15 without.
Recent reports have identified Asda as the cheapest supermarket for Christmas chocolate tubs, with standard tubs of Heroes, Roses, and Celebrations all priced under £5. Morrisons follows closely, selling them for £7, or £5.50 with a Morrisons More Card.
In comparison, Tesco offers Celebrations and Quality Street for just £3.95 with a Clubcard, while Roses and Heroes are priced at £7, or £5.25 with a Clubcard. Aldi and Lidl are also selling tubs for under £5.
Notably, Marks and Spencer and Waitrose do not stock traditional tubs on their websites, opting instead for smaller pouch-sized packets and alternative festive chocolates priced between approximately £4 and £10.
