It is only fitting that Nashville International Airport, where Tennessee welcomes visitors from around the globe, should bear the name of our state’s beloved daughter, embodying the enduring influence of Dolly’s music, philanthropy, faith, and compassion.”
The proposal to rename the airport will be deliberated during a meeting on September 17, addressing the current Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority naming policy, which traditionally requires a two-year waiting period post the demise of an individual before any property can be named after them, as per The New York Times. The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development fully supports the renaming initiative, with its commissioner Mark Ezell stating, “Dolly Parton has been a prominent figure in Tennessee tourism, serving as a leading ambassador for our state. Her influence has introduced millions of travelers to our music, landscapes, and hospitable culture. The airport, where countless Tennessee journeys commence, could not have a more fitting namesake.”
