A 68-year-old British man was fatally shot during a robbery in southern Ghana, as confirmed by local law enforcement.
The tragic incident occurred on a Friday at a drinking establishment near the Community Nine cemetery in Tema, which is approximately 15 miles east of the capital city, Accra. Despite being swiftly taken to the Tema General Hospital, the victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
According to reports from Modern Ghana, the man was sitting with a group when six young men on motorcycles approached them. One of the assailants seized the victim’s phone, leading to a confrontation where one of the suspects opened fire before fleeing the scene with the group on their bikes. In response, the Tema Regional Police Command has initiated a comprehensive operation to locate and apprehend the perpetrators.
Law enforcement recovered a spent 9mm shell from the crime scene, which is being processed as key evidence in the investigation. Authorities have conducted interviews with witnesses and are in the process of informing the British High Commission about the death of their national.
A representative from the Foreign Office informed The Mirror that they are offering assistance to the bereaved family of the deceased individual in Ghana.
