“Ottawa Redblacks Break CFL Losing Streak Record”

The Ottawa Redblacks have set a new record in the CFL by enduring the longest losing streak in the modern era. The team’s 15th consecutive defeat came on Friday night against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, extending back to the previous season. This surpasses the 14-game losing streak by the Shreveport Pirates in 1994, as noted by CFL historian Steve Daniel.

Expressing disappointment, Redblacks fan Jimmy Fata remarked on the team’s current situation, highlighting the lack of clarity on the underlying issues. The team’s tradition of cutting a “wood cookie” for every touchdown at home games has seen a decline due to the recent lack of success on the field.

The Redblacks’ losing streak now stands as the third-longest in CFL history since 1907, with a potential to tie the Hamilton Wildcats for the second spot if they lose the upcoming game against the Montreal Alouettes. The league’s evolution post-World War II, transitioning into a professionalized and competitive landscape, contrasts with the early amateur status of the sport.

Looking at the team’s performance, Daniel suggested a continued focus on rebuilding the roster, particularly on defense. Despite recent changes and improvements, the Redblacks struggle in the red zone, reflecting their challenges in scoring opportunities.

Fata emphasized the importance of unwavering support for the team through thick and thin, likening it to nurturing a child. Despite the tough times, he remains a dedicated fan, optimistic about the team’s potential for improvement in the future.
