A young man who participated in the Greek version of the popular reality show “Survivor” is taking legal action against the show’s producers following a tragic boating incident that resulted in the amputation of his leg. Stavros Floros, aged 22, has filed a lawsuit in a Florida court seeking $100 million in damages.
During Season 13 of Survivor Greece, Floros was involved in a spearfishing activity off the coast of the Dominican Republic on May 11. He was struck by a tourist boat, causing severe injuries to both of his legs, with his left leg being amputated above the knee. Floros was initially treated at a local medical facility before being transferred to a hospital in Miami where he underwent multiple surgeries and spent over two months in recovery.
The lawsuit, filed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court, names the production company AcunMedya, its affiliates, and the parent company of Skai TV as defendants. Floros claimed that despite the show’s suspension and promises of support, he did not receive adequate care and assistance from the production team.
According to Floros and other contestants, the accident occurred during a fishing expedition as part of the show’s survival challenges. The lawsuit alleges that the production team failed to implement safety measures despite the known risks of boat traffic in the area. Floros’s fellow contestant recounted witnessing the boat striking Floros and the delayed response from the boat in providing aid.
Floros expressed his distress over the life-altering incident, questioning the value of risking his safety for a television show. The legal action also highlights the ties of the accused parties to Florida and suggests negligence in ensuring contestant safety during filming.
Apart from Survivor Greece, AcunMedya is known for producing various international versions of the show. Efforts to obtain comments from AcunMedya regarding the lawsuit were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
