Conor McGregor has expressed his support for the UFC’s upcoming White House event, even though he is not slated to participate in it. Initially rumored to headline a fight on President Donald Trump’s front lawn against Michael Chandler on June 14, McGregor is now expected to compete the following month. UFC CEO Dana White unveiled the White House card on Saturday, featuring Ilia Topuria defending his lightweight title against Justin Gaethje in the main event.
In a surprising move, Alex Pereira will move up to the heavyweight division to challenge Ciryl Gane for the interim belt in the co-main event. McGregor, despite not being on the card, shared his enthusiasm for the event by posting a photo on social media with the caption “love it” and later commenting that it was “a great card.”
Earlier, McGregor mentioned his eagerness to return to the octagon but was still awaiting confirmation on his next fight. He disclosed his previous expectation to face Chandler at the White House, emphasizing the excitement surrounding the potential matchup. However, plans shifted, and McGregor hinted at a possible return during International Fight Week.
Furthermore, McGregor revealed his intention to return at welterweight, emphasizing his readiness to face any opponent offered to him. He expressed a degree of frustration with the delay in finalizing a fight and mentioned his manager’s upcoming meeting in Las Vegas to hopefully secure a suitable offer.
