A flamingo named Frankie, who fled from Paradise Park in Hayle, Cornwall, surprised caretakers by turning up in France, over 100 miles away. The bird, known for her daring escape, managed to reach the coast of Brittany, leaving park staff amazed and relieved to see her in good health after her unexpected journey.
Frankie, whose wings were clipped to prevent long flights, made her escape on November 2, briefly returning to Hayle before being sighted near Porthtowan, approximately 13 miles away. Just over a week later, reports emerged of the adventurous flamingo being spotted in north-west France, with Paradise Park confirming she sustained minor injuries.
Although flamingos are capable of flying long distances, the park expressed astonishment at Frankie’s successful journey and gratitude for her apparent well-being. Despite the challenge of bringing her back home, the park’s director, Nick Reynolds, acknowledged the slim possibility of her return. The team now hopes Frankie will integrate into a greater flamingo colony in south-west France as the best current outcome for the beloved bird.
