“Wet and Windy Weekend Ahead, Record November Rainfall Predicted”

Forecasters are cautioning about the possibility of increased rainy and windy conditions in the upcoming month following a tumultuous October. The Met Office has issued a warning for unsettled weather this weekend, indicating the likelihood of strong winds and rainy spells, especially affecting western regions. While some areas might experience brief dry periods with sunshine, many are expected to face continued heavy and gusty showers according to forecasts.

Coastal regions are expected to face gales on Saturday, with Sunday predicted to have a mix of sunshine, showers, and cloudy skies, transitioning to rain moving in from the Atlantic later in the day. The windy conditions are anticipated to persist, with the potential for coastal gales developing in the west towards the evening. Temperatures are projected to remain around average for this time of year.

Bookmaker Coral has adjusted the odds to 2-1 for next month to potentially become the wettest November on record in the UK, down from 4-1 previously. Additionally, the firm has set the odds at 6-4 for wind speeds reaching up to 100mph in mainland UK over the weekend. Coral’s John Hill stated that the beginning of the new month appears to be wet, with heavy downpours expected, leading to the halving of odds for a record-wet November. He also mentioned the reduced odds for extreme wind speeds during the weekend.

The Met Office’s extended forecast from November 5 to November 5 suggests that the unsettled weather pattern is likely to persist, with low pressure systems prevailing over the UK, bringing showers or prolonged rainy periods. Western areas are expected to experience the highest rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and possible gales. The forecast hints at occasional drier spells mainly towards the east.

Looking ahead to the second half of November, forecasters anticipate a shift towards less unsettled conditions. From November 15 to November 29, there is a possibility of more high-pressure systems bringing drier weather, but also increasing the chances of overnight fog and frost. While rain, showers, and strong winds may still occur, especially in the west, temperatures are likely to remain near or above average, with occasional colder intervals if prolonged settled weather emerges.

Overnight conditions are predicted to remain unsettled with a mixture of clear intervals and showers for many regions, alongside a band of heavy rain moving eastward across the UK accompanied by strong winds. Saturday is expected to start with heavy rain in the north before clearing northeastwards, with the rest of the day featuring sunshine and blustery showers, particularly in the southwest. The weekend is forecasted to end and the new week to begin with continuing unsettled weather, although showers are expected to decrease on Sunday before more rain arrives on Monday.
