A man named Wayne Broadhurst, aged 49, was tragically killed in a stabbing incident that occurred in Uxbridge on Monday evening. Two others were also injured in what authorities described as a random act of violence. The individual arrested in connection with the stabbing arrived in the UK in a lorry and later obtained asylum in 2022, according to the Home Office.
Contrary to social media claims, the suspect is not residing in any asylum accommodation provided by the Home Office but in a private residential address, as confirmed by officials. The Metropolitan Police stated that the suspect is not linked to any asylum hotel. The police disclosed that the suspect was apprehended at the scene and is being investigated for murder and attempted murder.
The attack, which took place on Midhurst Gardens, resulted in the death of the 49-year-old man, while a 45-year-old man sustained severe injuries. Additionally, a 14-year-old boy was also stabbed but is expected to recover fully. The authorities have ruled out terrorism as a motive and are exploring the connection between the suspect and the victims.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspect being chased by police officers, with one officer using a Taser to subdue him. One neighbor described the victim as a regular dog walker and expressed shock over the incident. A vigil was held by a group of community members near the crime scene, where flowers were laid and candles were lit in memory of the deceased.
Chief Superintendent Jill Horsfall condemned the violence as a senseless act and assured the community of ongoing police presence to maintain safety. Residents were urged to provide any information related to the incident to aid the investigation. Authorities have set up a crime scene and increased patrols in the area to address community concerns.
