Dorchester Town Player Wes Fogden Suffers Broken Neck Vertebrae

Wes Fogden, a former midfielder for Bournemouth and Brighton, sustained two broken vertebrae in his neck during a recent FA Trophy match. The incident occurred while Fogden was playing for Dorchester Town against Basingstoke Town, leading to the game being called off.

Following the injury, Dorchester provided an update on Fogden, who also serves as a player-coach for the club. They announced that the match, which was abandoned due to the severe injury, would be rescheduled for Tuesday evening.

“Our FA Trophy game at Basingstoke Town yesterday was abandoned following a serious injury to Magpies player/coach @wesfogden12 in the first half,” stated the non-league club. “Wes was conscious and talking as he was taken to the ambulance, and subsequent hospital scans revealed two fractured vertebrae in his neck, necessitating several weeks in a neck collar.

“We will provide further updates on Wes’ condition as soon as possible. We extend our gratitude to all Magpies and Basingstoke staff and players who assisted in caring for Wes on the field before his hospitalization. The entire club sends our heartfelt wishes for Wes’ complete and speedy recovery.”

Fogden, known for his midfield play, initiated his career at Brighton and has accumulated over 500 appearances for various league and non-league teams. Although he contributed to Bournemouth’s promotion to the Championship under Eddie Howe, he had moved on before the team ascended to the Premier League.

The Cherries conveyed their best wishes to Fogden on social media, joined by other clubs like Yeovil Town and Poole Town, who also expressed their support.

Dorchester, a participant in the Southern League Premier Division, entered the FA Trophy during the third qualifying round. Basingstoke reached the competition’s first round proper by defeating Shaftesbury with a narrow 2-1 victory while Dorchester triumphed over Bideford 4-0.

In the previous season, Aldershot Town clinched the FA Trophy by defeating Spennymoor Town 3-0 in the final at Wembley. Aldershot Town and 23 other National League Premier teams are slated to enter the competition at the third round stage.

Sky has announced a reduction in the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming 2025/26 season, offering savings of £192 and broadcasting over 1,400 live matches encompassing the Premier League, EFL, and more.

For the forthcoming season, Sky pledges to showcase a minimum of 215 live Premier League matches, an increase of up to 100 games compared to the previous season.
