A man standing trial for the alleged abuse and death of his three-month-old son claimed in court that he was an exceptional father. Klevi Pirjani, 37, and his wife Nivalda Santos Pirjani, 34, are facing charges at Liverpool Crown Court related to the death of their son, Miguel, who passed away after suffering severe injuries last year. Medical reports revealed various injuries, including a fractured skull, brain bleeding, and multiple broken bones of different ages.
While both parents deny the accusations of systematic abuse leading to the child’s death, Nivalda has admitted to a charge related to the child’s demise. During his testimony, Klevi Pirjani, a former chef and digger driver, expressed deep concern for his son’s health and emphasized his love and care for Miguel.
Emergency services responded to their residence in Seacombe, Wirral, on November 24, 2024, where they found Miguel in critical condition. He was promptly taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital for urgent care. Medical examinations revealed severe injuries, indicating a pattern of abuse suffered by the infant.
Miguel remained unconscious for several days and was ultimately taken off life support on November 29, 2024, following which he succumbed to his injuries. Further investigations during a post-mortem examination unveiled additional grave injuries, solidifying the suspicion of deliberate harm.
In court, Klevi Pirjani recounted his life journey from Albania to the UK and detailed his relationship with Nivalda. Despite claiming to have provided the best care for Miguel, Pirjani refuted allegations of causing harm to his son. The prosecution highlighted the severity and non-accidental nature of Miguel’s injuries, pointing towards systematic abuse orchestrated by the parents.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them, with the trial ongoing under the oversight of Mr. Justice Baker.
