A 10-year-old girl, initially deemed “fine” by medical professionals, is now experiencing deteriorating mobility and faced a refusal for a specialized wheelchair from the NHS. Faye Errington expressed frustration over what she described as repeated misdiagnoses of her daughter Orla by doctors. Orla was born with three heart defects, one kidney, and a single fully developed hip socket, which led to her being readmitted to the hospital shortly after birth due to health complications.
Orla, now dealing with respiratory issues, anxiety disorder, and a rare genetic disorder known as Kabuki Syndrome, struggles to walk due to severe knee and leg abnormalities. Despite her daily agony while attempting to walk, Orla’s application for a powered wheelchair was declined by the NHS, prompting Faye to launch a GoFundMe campaign to acquire one.
Faye emphasized the urgency of Orla’s situation, stating that her daughter is now bedridden and in need of immediate assistance. She lamented that if healthcare providers had listened to her concerns earlier, Orla’s suffering could have been alleviated. Faye recounted instances when she alerted doctors to potential issues with Orla’s legs, only to be reassured that everything was normal. Subsequent X-rays revealed critical conditions that required corrective surgeries.
The ongoing medical challenges have taken a toll on Orla’s mental health and development, leading to extended periods away from school. Faye highlighted the emotional distress and trauma Orla has endured as a result of numerous surgeries and medical interventions.
