Prince Harry’s critical remarks about his controversial uncle are resurfacing as Prince Andrew remains embroiled in scandals.
Upon Meghan’s entry into the Royal Family following her marriage to Harry, there was an initial buzz, with the Sussexes, alongside Prince William and Princess Kate, being dubbed the ‘Fab Four’. However, behind the scenes, challenges arose for Harry and Meghan, despite their polished public appearances. Meghan later disclosed her battles with mental health and suicidal thoughts.
Tensions escalated with other senior royals, with Harry acknowledging differences with his brother before their decision to step back from royal duties, causing a national uproar. Unlike Prince Andrew, who faces renewed scrutiny for his involvement in various controversies, Harry and Meghan had their royal privileges, including security, swiftly revoked by the late Queen and her advisors.
In his memoir, Harry highlighted the high security threat level faced by the couple, and the shock of losing state-funded security in 2020. Stranded in Canada during the pandemic, the couple, with their son Prince Archie, felt exposed until Hollywood figure Tyler Perry offered them refuge and security at his residence.
Harry’s assurance to Meghan that their security wouldn’t be withdrawn stemmed from the treatment of Prince Andrew. The latter recently agreed to relinquish his duke title and royal honors after a discussion with King Charles, despite not being an active royal for years. Andrew’s public retreat followed controversy over allegations of sexual misconduct and his association with Jeffrey Epstein.
Despite facing serious accusations, Andrew retained police security until 2022, still funded by the late Queen. King Charles eventually ceased funding Andrew’s security in 2024 to encourage his departure from Royal Lodge.
