“WestJet Flight Attendants Secure 18% Wage Increase”

The union representing WestJet flight attendants has disclosed details of the recent tentative agreement made with the Calgary-based airline following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has announced that the agreement includes an increase of over 18% in wages spread across three years, along with the introduction of a new “duty period premium” for ground work compensation.

In addition to the wage hike, the deal offers extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and various other benefits. Over the long holiday weekend, all WestJet flights in several parts of Canada were suspended as 4,400 cabin crew members prepared to strike, which commenced early on Sunday.

However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union in the early hours of Monday, leading to a gradual normalization of WestJet operations. The cabin crew members are set to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.

Passengers who faced flight disruptions due to the strike may still experience delays until the airline can accommodate them on available flights.
