A man from the UK passed away after collapsing at the summit of a mountain during a hike to celebrate his daughter’s birthday. The 63-year-old suffered a heart attack at the peak of Ella Rock in southern Sri Lanka. The climb, which took several hours, was part of his daughter’s 34th birthday celebration on October 25.
Upon reaching the top, the man suddenly collapsed, as confirmed by local authorities. Despite being swiftly taken to Bandarawela Hospital, he could not be revived. An autopsy revealed that the cause of his collapse was a heart attack. The pair had arrived in Sri Lanka on October 16 and had explored Weligama before embarking on their trek to Ella Rock. The Foreign Office stated that they are assisting the family during this difficult time.
This incident follows the recent death of a British fashion and travel influencer, Ebony McIntosh, who fell ill during her visit to Sri Lanka. Ebony, 24, from Derby, was hospitalized alongside other tourists staying at her hostel, complaining of symptoms like vomiting, nausea, and breathing difficulties. Tragically, Ebony passed away shortly after admission to the hospital. In a poignant tribute on social media, her younger sister India expressed deep sorrow and a longing for her return. The family is determined to seek justice for Ebony and honor her memory.
