Canadian actor Simu Liu, known for his role in Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” has recently gotten married to music industry executive Allison Hsu. The wedding took place over the weekend, as confirmed by a representative for Liu to CBC News on Tuesday. TMZ was the first to report on the festivities happening in France.
The couple publicly announced their engagement in May 2025 during a trip to Paris, following their relationship that began in late 2022. Hsu shared images from various wedding-related events in Mexico and a summer visit to Paris with Liu on social media.
Liu and Hsu have been transparent about their relationship, frequently posting about each other on social platforms, with Liu mentioning their bond in interviews. In a 2023 interview with People magazine, Liu expressed his feelings, stating that he feels supported and cherished in their relationship.
Originally from China and raised in Toronto, Liu is set to reprise his role as Shang-Chi in the upcoming Marvel movie “Avengers: Doomsday.” His portrayal of Shang-Chi has propelled him to global recognition, following his success in the CBC comedy “Kim’s Convenience,” where he played the role of Jung Kim.
In addition to his Marvel role, Liu has been involved in various projects in recent years, such as appearing in the film “Barbie” as Ken, voice acting in the animated movie “In Your Dreams,” and starring in the spy thriller series “The Copenhagen Test.” He also made his Broadway debut in the Tony-winning comedy “Oh, Mary!” this past spring, showcasing his theatrical roots.
Liu has been vocal about the need for more Asian representation in leading roles in Hollywood, criticizing the industry’s traditional and conservative mindset that views new talent as risky. His journey from theater to mainstream success reflects his commitment to challenging industry norms and advocating for diverse representation on screen.
