Russell Brand criticized his former wife Katy Perry’s new relationship with Justin Trudeau at a political event in the United States. Brand launched a verbal attack on the ex-Canadian Prime Minister over his policies and expressed his disdain for authority, particularly targeting the current Labour government. He also commended Donald Trump’s actions during his time in The White House in 2025, contrasting them with Joe Biden’s leadership. Brand, a former stand-up comedian, indicated his disillusionment with Hollywood and touched on the charges against him in the UK related to alleged sexual assaults but emphasized his lack of trust in human authority.
During his speech at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest event in Phoenix, Brand unexpectedly brought up Perry’s relationship with Trudeau, in the presence of Perry’s mother. While expressing his love for his current wife, Brand mentioned his continued affection for Perry and his surprise at her dating Trudeau. He criticized Trudeau as a “globalist stooge” and highlighted his concerns about political leaders lacking true power and serving global interests rather than the people they represent.
Despite his critical remarks, Brand emphasized the importance of forgiveness and love, extending his wishes for happiness to Trudeau and the audience. He referenced Trudeau’s past blackface scandal and urged less use of blackface and more focus on genuine characteristics. Brand concluded his speech by stressing the need to disobey authority and not blindly trust them, advocating for individual freedom and resistance against perceived oppressive systems.
Brand, who faces assault and rape allegations from multiple women, denied the accusations and maintained his distrust of human authority. He urged individuals to challenge rules and authorities to assert their freedom and resist control by what he described as “phony authorities.” Brand’s speech at the event covered a wide range of topics, from personal relationships to political critique and his fundamental distrust of authority figures.
