Carley Fortune, a renowned romance writer, has revealed the upcoming release of her sixth novel, “Only in Summer,” scheduled to hit the shelves on May 18, 2027. This new book will transport readers back to Barry’s Bay, Ont., the familiar backdrop of Fortune’s previous works like “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” as well as her childhood hometown.
In a recent newsletter announcement, Fortune shared her excitement about owning a cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-held dream since selling her family’s lakefront property. The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek (known as Ellie), mirrors this dream, having grown up in Barry’s Bay and aspiring to own property there. However, Ellie’s plans are disrupted when a neighboring house is demolished to make way for a lavish mansion, sparking a potentially hesitant romance against the picturesque lakeside setting.
Fortune, based in Toronto, boasts a background in writing and editing for prestigious publications like Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her previous literary works include “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.” The latter novel stood out as a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking a significant milestone by being the first romance novel featured on the show.
Furthermore, Fortune’s novel “Every Summer After” was adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” which recently premiered and secured a second season renewal based on “One Golden Summer.” Netflix Canada is also set to transform “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode series, expanding Fortune’s literary universe onto the screen.
