Brooke Henderson is in pursuit of her third victory at the CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton, where she sits at 5-under par after shooting a 68 in the second round. The defending champion from Smiths Falls, Ontario, is currently four strokes behind the leader, Soo Bin Joo of South Korea, who is at 9 under at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton.
Despite being 7 under before two back-nine bogeys, Henderson encountered a slight setback when her tee shot veered left and hit a spectator. She promptly apologized to the woman and offered her a golf ball as a gesture of goodwill. Meanwhile, Calgary’s Aphrodite Deng, last year’s low amateur in Mississauga, Ontario, finished her round with consecutive birdies to reach 3 under.
In this $2.75-million US event, the cut line will include the top 65 players and ties. Among the contenders are Canadian teenagers Anna Huang from Vancouver and Michelle Xing from Richmond Hill, Ontario, who started the day at 5 under and had afternoon tee times.
