“Moise Bombito Inspired by Marsch for World Cup despite Injury”

Moise Bombito credits a conversation with Canadian national team coach Jesse Marsch for his decision to prioritize playing in the FIFA World Cup despite his physical condition. Bombito, a 26-year-old center back, is scheduled for surgery on his left tibia once more, as announced by his club team Nice. The French Ligue 1 side revealed that the Montreal native was facing persistent pain, leading to a scan and the eventual decision for surgery.

Speaking in an interview with Nice, Bombito shared how Marsch’s call for his participation in the World Cup on home soil, surrounded by friends and family, motivated him to commit despite his leg issues. Despite initially fracturing his tibia on October 5, Bombito returned in time for the summer tournament, featuring in three out of five matches for Canada, including a notable start in the round-of-16 victory over South Africa.

Acknowledging the physical challenges he faced during the competition, Bombito recognized the toll it took on him. Despite his efforts to contribute to the team, his compromised performance due to the lingering tibia injury was evident. Canada Soccer has yet to comment on the situation.

Expressing disappointment over the setback, Bombito emphasized his determination to overcome the injury and return to full strength. The persistent discomfort and pain he experienced upon his return to Nice indicated the necessity of surgery. Bombito described the constant pain and electric shocks he felt with every movement, highlighting the mental and physical toll of the injury.

Having joined Nice in 2024 after playing for Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids, Bombito’s first season with the French club was promising, with 35 appearances. However, his subsequent season was marred by injuries, limiting him to just two games.
