Driver Jody Jamieson and his horse Fifth and Five emerged victorious in the 67th edition of the Gold Cup and Saucer race held in Charlottetown on Saturday night. Jamieson expressed his disbelief and joy, describing the win as a dream come true. The prestigious race, boasting a $100,000 purse, attracts participants from various parts of North America to the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino annually.
Having followed the race since his early years, Jamieson had a special connection to the event, particularly cherishing his father’s win in 2006 with longshot Banner Yankee. However, his latest victory with Fifth and Five now holds the top spot in his list of favorite wins.
During the race, Jamieson maintained his focus on following the horse and driver in the first post position, ultimately crossing the finish line with a winning time of 1:49.4. He praised Fifth and Five for meeting all the necessary criteria, describing the horse as perfectly suited for the track with excellent traits.
Following the race, Jamieson and his team celebrated in the winners’ circle, with the driver expressing overwhelming joy and stating that the victory had fulfilled his lifelong dream. The emotional win left Jamieson in a state of euphoria, unsure if he would ever come down from the high of the moment.
