A surprise entrance accompanied by a cloud of smoke! The nostalgic ’90s animated series, Darkwing Duck, is making a comeback after 35 years, as announced by Disney+. In this new series, Darkwing Duck finds himself in an alternate world where his superhero identity is unknown. A rebellious teen named Duckie, aware of his heroic past, motivates Darkwing to return to crime-fighting.
The creator of the original series, Tad Stones, collaborated on the new storyline, ensuring a fresh yet familiar experience. Mark Hamill will lend his voice to Drake Mallard, aka Darkwing Duck, the fearless protector of St. Canard city. The announcement of this reboot garnered mixed reactions from fans, particularly regarding the replacement of the original voice actor, Jim Cummings.
Joining the cast are Seth Rogen as Launchpad McQuack and Lizzy Caplan as Gosalyn Mallard. Lilimar Hernandez, known for voicing Valentina Ortiz in Inside Out 2, will take on the role of Duckie in this exciting revival. The original Darkwing Duck series, which premiered in 1991 on the Disney Channel and produced 91 episodes, was well-received and aired in syndication until 1997.
Additionally, Darkwing Duck made appearances in video games for Nintendo NES and Game Boy. Rogen’s production company, Point Grey Pictures, known for its recent work on The Muppet Show for Disney+, will be producing the new Darkwing Duck series. The team at Point Grey expressed their enthusiasm by quoting Darkwing Duck’s iconic catchphrase: “Let’s get dangerous!”
