Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Promise David, a Canadian striker, for the upcoming Premier League season. The player, who joins on a season-long loan from Belgium’s Union Saint-Gilloise, has the potential for a permanent transfer worth $29.7 million US based on undisclosed criteria.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be competing in the Premier League starting from the next season, in a deal that sets a new transfer fee record for the Belgian club. The striker arrives at Brighton following a successful stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 matches and contributed to the club’s first league title in 90 years during the 2025 season. David extended his contract with Union through June 2029 last year.
Having represented Canada at the recent World Cup, David showcased his talent by scoring a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. With four goals in 14 appearances for the national team, the 25-year-old forward has also played for Nigeria’s under-23 squad before switching allegiance to Canada in 2025.
Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David has had a diverse career having played in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before moving to Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director Mike Cave expressed excitement about David’s arrival, highlighting the striker’s goal-scoring abilities, international experience, and physical attributes that will benefit the team in the upcoming season.
