The ensemble for the show “Heated Rivalry” is adding more star power as it progresses, with the Canadian hockey drama securing three additional talents for its upcoming season. “Heated Rivalry,” produced by Bell Media’s Crave streaming service, gained worldwide popularity during its initial six episodes. The show was acquired by HBO in the U.S. and internationally, propelling the careers of its main actors: Hudson Williams from British Columbia, Connor Storrie from the U.S., and François Arnaud from Quebec.
Recently announced newcomers to the cast include Milla Jovovich, known for her roles in the “Resident Evil” series and Luc Besson’s “The Fifth Element,” Kevin Zegers from Woodstock, Ontario, recognized for his appearances in “Gossip Girl” and films like “Transamerica,” and Paul Gross, a prominent figure in Canadian film, television, and theater, famous for his work in “Due South” and movies he wrote and directed such as “Men With Brooms” and “Passchendaele.”
Novelist Rachel Reid, whose “Game Changers” books served as inspiration for the series, expressed her excitement about the casting news. The show delves into the clandestine love affair between two competitive young ice hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, amid their rising careers.
Paul Gross, who recently starred in a production of Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot” at the Stratford Festival, is set to portray hockey league commissioner Roger Crowell. Kevin Zegers will take on the role of Coach Wiebe, the head of the Ottawa Centaurs, the team Rozanov joins in the upcoming season. Milla Jovovich will embody Dr. Galina Molchalina, a Russian-speaking therapist supporting Rozanov.
The new season will also feature returning actors from Season 1, including Robbie G.K., Sophie Nélisse, Christina Chang, and Dylan Walsh. Additionally, several Canadian talents have been added to the roster for the upcoming season.
The filming of the second season commenced on August 17, as confirmed by show creator and director Jacob Tierney. Audiences can anticipate the season premiere on Crave in Spring 2027.
