“Resident Receives Package With Suspected Blood, Health Concerns Arise”

A Stanley resident, Aaron, expressed shock and apprehension upon receiving a package tainted with what appeared to be blood in the mail. The 27-year-old was anticipating the arrival of a collector’s item when his mail carrier handed him a white envelope stained with red liquid, encased in two clear bags with an attached apology notice.

Upon opening the package, Aaron discovered it was extensively covered in blood, leading him to speculate that it could be human blood, as he was informed by Royal Mail customer services that meat is prohibited from being sent through the postal service.

Having previously worked as a paramedic, Aaron mentioned that he only noticed the package’s condition after it was delivered to him beneath another parcel. Concerned about potential health risks, including exposure to diseases like hepatitis and HIV, he is now unsure about the proper disposal of the parcel due to its classification as clinical waste.

While Royal Mail offered to retrieve the package upon Aaron’s complaint, he declined, citing concerns about protocol regarding clinical waste disposal. Aaron expressed dismay at the situation, emphasizing the negligence of whoever handled the package and pointing out that the blood had likely contaminated other items due to the amount present.

Additionally, Aaron, who disclosed being autistic and experiencing severe anxiety, revealed that the incident has been distressing him, pondering about the origin and contents of the blood. Despite seeking reassurance from his GP, he remains unsettled by the situation.

In response to the incident, a Royal Mail spokesperson assured that an investigation is underway, with plans to reach out directly to the affected customer.
