“I Have No Regrets”: Murderer Sentenced to Life

A man convicted of murder was heard shouting “I have no regrets” as he was taken away in a police vehicle after fatally stabbing his pregnant girlfriend. Shaine March, who was on parole at the time, stabbed 32-year-old Alana Odysseos 19 times in her Walthamstow home in east London. March confessed to the police, stating, “I did it. I killed her, hahahaha.” The Old Bailey sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 42 years.

Surveillance footage released by the authorities captured March leaving the crime scene and yelling inside the police van following his arrest. He defiantly proclaimed, “I don’t (…) regret nothing. Give me the death chamber, that’s what I want,” and added, “There’s a place for me now in hell.”

Prior to discarding his mobile phone in a drain, March recorded a voice message admitting to his mother that he had murdered a woman. The judge highlighted the brutal nature of the attack, emphasizing the extensive injuries Alana suffered, including multiple stab wounds to various parts of her body, some of which could have been individually fatal.

March, previously convicted of a fatal stabbing in 2000, had a history of violence and controlling behavior. Despite calls for a whole life order, the court acknowledged that due to his age, he might never be released. Alana, who had two young daughters, had resisted March’s demands for an abortion, expressing her desire to keep their unborn child.

March, 47, of Surrey Quays, south-east London, initially pleaded not guilty to murder but later changed his plea to guilty during the trial. Prosecutor Louise Oakley detailed the horrific scene where Alana was found outside her home, bleeding from multiple stab wounds, pleading for help after being attacked by March. Alana’s vulnerability and desire for love were highlighted, along with her fear of March and the abusive dynamics in their relationship.

The tragic incident sheds light on the devastating consequences of domestic violence and control, underscoring the need for awareness and support for victims in such situations.
