“Amazon Customers Alerted to Phishing Scheme”

In March, individuals who made purchases on Amazon are being alerted to a fraudulent scheme falsely purporting a “product recall” notification. The deceptive text message, received by UK mobile phones, initiates with a warning labeled “Amazon Product Recall Notice.”

The message then proceeds to offer a full reimbursement to recipients and prompts them to click on a link and log into their Amazon account. To escalate the urgency, it advises users to immediately stop using the product.

The message, as viewed by Mirror Online, states, “Dear Customer, we wish to notify you of a product recall impacting an item from your March 2026 order due to a design flaw that could pose a potential safety hazard.

“We regret any inconvenience this may cause and value your swift attention to this crucial safety issue. Thank you for your ongoing trust in Amazon.”

While the communication may raise concerns, there is no actual recall. It is simply a phishing scam crafted to deceive anxious customers into disclosing their login credentials, which could lead to adverse outcomes.

Clicking the link redirects individuals to a counterfeit Amazon login page that appears authentic. Upon entering their credentials, scammers can capture them and potentially conduct unauthorized transactions, block victims from their accounts, or access personal data.

Despite its recent emergence on phones, this scam is not the first instance of Amazon customers being targeted. In a similar incident in February, cybercriminals spread messages alleging a product recall “for safety reasons,” directing individuals to a fraudulent Amazon page, as highlighted by consumer group Which?

Amazon, in response to Which?, cautioned against various scams urging individuals to make payments via email, phone, or text for goods or services. The company emphasized the importance of vigilance when faced with urgent requests, as scammers often utilize persuasive tactics to exploit consumers.

Furthermore, Amazon encourages consumers to report suspicious scams to safeguard their accounts and enable legal action against malicious actors. Customers are advised to exercise caution regarding unfamiliar phone numbers, unexpected order or delivery messages, and links displaying misspellings, peculiar formatting, or URLs using IP addresses instead of standard web addresses.
