“EE Launches Smart Search & Mood Matcher for TV Content”

EE, a company under BT’s ownership, is launching a new feature called Smart Search on its TV devices to simplify content discovery for UK households. This feature allows users to search for shows based on descriptions like mood, themes, or quotes rather than specific titles. By saying phrases like “Marty McFly” or “sci-fi,” viewers can easily find desired content across live TV, on-demand services, and streaming apps.

In addition to Smart Search, EE is introducing Mood Matcher, an AI-powered tool that further refines viewing options by tailoring recommendations based on user preferences such as mood, genres, and themes. This personalized list of suggestions aims to streamline decision-making for families when choosing weekend entertainment.

According to Luciano Oliveira, Director of Product, Home & TV at EE, the goal of Smart Search and Mood Matcher is to simplify the content selection process for households. While Sky offers similar voice search capabilities, EE prides itself on being the first pay-TV service in the UK to deploy conversational, AI-driven search functionality.

The introduction of these features aligns with the growing need for faster content discovery in an era where audiences are inundated with numerous viewing choices. Paolo Pescatore, a technology analyst, highlights that enhanced content discovery enhances the overall viewing experience.

Smart Search and Mood Matcher are currently accessible through the EE TV app on compatible TVs, with support for EE TV Pro and EE TV Box Edge devices set to roll out soon. For more information, visit ee.co.uk/smartsearch.
