Prince Andrew has announced his decision to relinquish the title of Duke of York, sparking speculation about his future living arrangements. Despite distancing himself from the monarchy following the scandal surrounding his ties to Jeffrey Epstein and the allegations made by Virginia Giuffre, Andrew will remain at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, where he has resided since the early 2000s.
The Royal Lodge, located in Berkshire, just three miles south of Windsor Castle, has been Andrew’s home under a private lease that extends until at least 2078. The property holds historical significance, originally built as a farmhouse in 1662 and later expanded in the 1930s by the then Duke of York, who later became King George VI.
The residence, featuring a central three-story section with 30 rooms, including seven bedrooms and a chapel, sits on approximately 40 hectares of land. The interior design reflects a blend of traditional royal aesthetics and personal touches from past royal occupants.
Notably, the Queen Mother resided at the Royal Lodge from 1936 until her passing in 2002. The property boasts unique features such as a grand drawing room and a conservatory, adding to its charm and historical allure.
Despite the ongoing controversies surrounding his association with Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew continues to deny any allegations against him. His decision to relinquish his title does not impact his living arrangements at the Royal Lodge, ensuring that he maintains his residence on the estate.
