Paul Gascoigne’s life journey is set to be transformed into a television series, as casting directors are in the process of selecting actors to portray his family members.
The upcoming TV drama will depict his remarkable transition from poverty to fame. The former England star will share his story, detailing his modest beginnings in Gateshead and the pinnacle of his career during the 1990 World Cup in Italy.
Gascoigne has expressed his commitment to addressing the challenges of his addiction and his stints in rehabilitation centers both in the UK and overseas. Auditions are underway to fill key roles in the series, including parts for his siblings Carl, Lindsay, and Anna.
The 58-year-old Gazza recounted a poignant moment from his struggle with alcoholism, recalling a near-death experience during rehab in Arizona in 2013. He revealed that the TV series, titled “Gazza: The Life Story,” is currently in the casting process for his family members, with a special mention of his resilient 82-year-old mother, Carol.
The narrative will span from Gascoigne’s school days, highlighting the pivotal role his mother played in supporting his passion for football. In his newly released book ‘Eight’, he reminisces about his emotional return to Heathfield School in 1990, following his memorable performance at the World Cup.
Despite his fame, Gascoigne remained humble and sought to prove a former teacher wrong who had doubted his potential as a footballer. He emphasized the importance of nurturing young dreams and aspirations.
Negotiations are underway with various television networks for the broadcast rights of the forthcoming drama. The acclaimed 2022 documentary ‘Gazza,’ aired on BBC2, was honored with the ‘Best Documentary Series’ award at the 2023 Royal TV Society Awards.
‘Paul Gascoigne Eight,’ published by Reach Sport, will be available for sale starting October 23rd. Interested readers can pre-order the book on Amazon.
