O2 has announced a significant upgrade for millions of its users, providing them with faster 5G+ connectivity across the UK. This upgrade promises enhanced mobile coverage and quicker downloads, offering a 50% speed boost compared to older 4G networks.
Apart from speed improvements, users can expect longer battery life as devices consume less power by not needing to connect to both 4G and 5G networks simultaneously, unlike standard 5G. The upgrade is currently rolling out to users with 5G+ compatible devices and SIM cards, with activation in over 700 towns and cities.
Christian Hindennach, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, highlighted the benefits of the 5G+ service, emphasizing its availability to all O2 customers regardless of their plan. The upgrade aims to enhance performance in busy areas and major venues, providing a more reliable experience for residents and visitors. Virgin Media O2 is committed to network enhancement and investing £2 million daily to prepare customers for upcoming mobile innovations.
For local availability, users can check using O2’s postcode tool. Some popular 5G+ ready devices include the iPhone 15, 16 (including 16e), and 17 ranges, as well as the Google Pixel 9 (including Fold) and 10 series.
