A tragic incident unfolded in Brooklyn on Saturday night as a veteran New York City firefighter, Patrick Brady, lost his life while battling a massive fire at a building on Kings Highway. Brady, aged 42 and an 11-year FDNY veteran, suffered a cardiac arrest on the rooftop of the burning structure in East Flatbush. Responding to reports of a fire on the sixth floor, Brady was part of the emergency “all-hands” team.
Despite immediate efforts by fellow firefighters and emergency responders to aid Brady, he was ultimately transported to Brookdale University Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, according to the FDNY. Additionally, a second firefighter and two civilians sustained minor injuries during the incident.
In a statement, Mayor Eric Adams praised Brady’s courage and dedication, highlighting the selfless nature of firefighters who put their lives on the line. Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker also expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing Brady’s commitment to public service and firefighting.
Tragically, Brady’s death marks the second FDNY member to perish in the line of duty within a two-week period, as shared by FDNY First Deputy Commissioner Mark Guerra during a press briefing. Survived by his wife, Kara, and his two firefighter brothers, Jimmy and Brian, Brady’s legacy as a dedicated public servant and a hero within the firefighting community is remembered.
