An 11-year-old boy, who was confined to his room by his mother, was rescued when authorities found him malnourished and covered in feces. Rachel Nicole Blaylock, 40, was apprehended by the police in Baytown, Texas, following a welfare check on her child at their residence.
Upon entering the house, an officer reported encountering a strong stench of excrement and a swarm of flies, prompting concern. The child, who is non-verbal and autistic, was discovered in a bedroom weighing only 46 pounds, with fecal matter on his body and under his nails.
Investigators revealed that the boy had been confined to the room with a screen door that locked from the outside, preventing him from leaving while allowing Blaylock to monitor him. The conditions inside the room were described as unsanitary, with feces scattered around and the mattress filthy.
Court documents detailed an exchange where Blaylock refused to take her son to the hospital, citing frustration with medical professionals. Subsequent medical evaluations diagnosed the child with severe autism and significant dental decay, indicating neglect. Blaylock faced charges of child injury and later, possession of methamphetamine, with a bond set at $250,000.
The boy’s grandmother lodged a complaint stating that he was frequently locked in his room for extended periods, impeding her ability to provide him with basic necessities. Allegations of neglect and lack of proper care were made against Blaylock, with reports indicating previous warnings from Child Protective Services regarding the child’s weight.
It was noted that the average weight for an 11-year-old boy in the US is 79 pounds, emphasizing the severity of the boy’s malnourishment and neglect.
