Major banks such as Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland are experiencing difficulties with their mobile apps and online services today due to a widespread IT outage affecting Amazon Web Services (AWS). This outage is impacting numerous online platforms, including some UK banks that rely on AWS infrastructure.
As a result, many individuals are facing challenges accessing their banking apps this morning. Users have taken to social media to express their frustrations, with one individual stating, “@LloydsBank app and site both down. Get it sorted I’ve got bills to pay,” while another mentioned issues with the Halifax Bank app and inability to log in. Similarly, a third user reported problems with the Bank of Scotland app and website, as well as the inability to use their card online.
Furthermore, AWS has acknowledged the issue and is actively working to address it. Other services experiencing disruptions following the AWS outage include Snapchat, Slack, Ring, Vodafone, Signal, Virgin Media, BT, EE, and Sky.
Individuals encountering banking service disruptions may not automatically qualify for compensation; eligibility depends on the impact of the outage. If the outage has resulted in missed bills or affected credit scores, individuals may be able to seek compensation. The duration of the service disruption and the bank’s response time also play a role in determining compensation eligibility.
Affected individuals should file a complaint with evidence demonstrating the financial impact of the outage. If access to online services is unavailable, visiting a local bank branch for in-person transactions is recommended. Alternatively, contacting the bank via phone or social media for guidance on accessing funds is advised.
