A woman was taken to court for vandalizing her former boyfriend’s car in a fit of jealousy, where she caused significant damage by smashing the windscreen and scratching derogatory words on the vehicle. Holly Jennings, aged 29 and a mother of two from Crewe, Cheshire, admitted to the act of criminal damage, resulting in approximately £3,000 worth of harm to the car parked outside her ex-partner’s residence.
The incident unfolded after Jennings made threatening phone calls to her ex-boyfriend, expressing her intention to harm his Ford Focus hot hatchback while he was away with his new partner. Upon his return, he was alerted by a neighbor about the vandalized car. Despite her regret for her actions, Jennings was charged with criminal damage and fined £120, in addition to paying £133 in costs and a surcharge.
During the court proceedings, her ex-partner chose not to support the prosecution. The prosecution highlighted the prior relationship between Jennings and the car owner, emphasizing that the act was driven by revenge within a domestic context. Jennings, who represented herself in court, acknowledged her wrongdoing and expressed remorse for her impulsive actions. The judge, while acknowledging the bitterness in Jennings’ feelings, urged her to move on and put an end to the conflict for the sake of their shared child. Despite the gravity of the offense, the judge considered Jennings’ lack of previous convictions, her remorse, and the unlikelihood of reoffending when deciding the penalty.
