Kamala Harris is contemplating a potential future presidential bid, asserting that her political journey is far from over. The former Vice President, who faced a defeat in the 2024 election against Donald Trump, expressed to the BBC her likelihood of becoming President one day, hinting at a forthcoming White House candidacy.
In an interview with Laura Kuenssberg, Harris envisioned the prospect of a female president during her grandnieces’ lifetime and cryptically hinted that it could be herself by saying “possibly.”
“I am not done,” Harris emphasized, highlighting her lifelong commitment to public service. Despite being viewed as an underdog by bookmakers in the Democratic Presidential candidate race, she leads in polls. National polling data places her 3.6 points ahead of her closest competitor, California Governor Gavin Newsom, with Pete Buttigieg, the former Transport Secretary under President Biden, trailing in third place with only 9.6%.
Disregarding the significance of polls, Harris mentioned that she defied them in her past political pursuits, emphasizing that her success is not determined by such forecasts. Regarding Trump, she criticized him as a “tyrant,” citing his administration’s actions against late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel as indicative of fascist tendencies.
Harris also condemned business leaders who complied with Trump’s requests. Recently, the White House disclosed a list of companies and individuals who financially supported the construction of Trump’s extravagant ballroom, including tech giants like Apple, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft.
Expressing her disapproval, Harris stated, “There are many… that have capitulated since day one, who are bending the knee at the foot of a tyrant, I believe for many reasons, including they want to be next to power, because they want to perhaps have a merger approved or avoid an investigation.”
The full interview with Harris will air on Sunday morning as part of Ms. Kuenssberg’s BBC One program.
