Google has announced that it will stop supporting Chrome on older versions of Apple’s macOS for MacBook users. While Chrome will still function on MacBooks and iMacs, users may no longer receive updates or security patches, potentially exposing them to cyber threats.
The change will impact Mac users running macOS 12 (Monterey) or earlier. Those on outdated platforms will need to upgrade to a newer system like macOS Ventura to continue receiving Chrome support. However, some older Mac models, such as pre-2017 iMacs and pre-2018 MacBook Airs, may not be compatible with Ventura, necessitating a device upgrade for continued safe Chrome usage.
The transition is set to take effect in July this year, with Chrome 150 being the final version supporting macOS 12. Subsequently, Chrome 151, expected to launch on July 28, 2026, will require macOS 13 Ventura or later for operation. Users are advised to ensure their devices are on macOS 13 or newer to receive future Chrome updates.
While older Chrome versions will remain functional, no further updates will be provided for users on macOS 12. Google recommends transitioning to a supported macOS version, such as macOS 13 Ventura or newer, to ensure access to the latest security enhancements and Chrome features.
