“Former Tennis Star Andy Murray Shifts Focus to Golf”

Andy Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion, has announced his intention to transition from professional tennis to golf following his retirement. The 38-year-old, who retired after the Olympics last year and briefly coached Novak Djokovic, is now dedicated to enhancing his skills in golf.

Although Murray has taken part in various celebrity golf events over the past 18 months, he acknowledges that becoming a professional golfer is unlikely. Nevertheless, he still dreams of contributing to the sport in a different capacity. During The Romesh Ranganathan Show, Murray expressed his desire to work as a caddie for a professional golfer and participate in The Open tournament.

“I am contemplating becoming a golf caddie, hopefully for a top golfer in the future,” Murray mentioned. “I have a passion for golf, and being part of a golfer’s success on the course by providing input on decisions would be a fantastic role.”

The former tennis star disclosed that his ideal partner is Robert MacIntyre, with whom he previously teamed up at the BMW PGA Championships. When asked about the possibility of his fame overshadowing the player he supports, Murray stated, “Initially, there might be excitement, but eventually, it becomes routine.”

Murray further added, “It’s a dream scenario. Imagine carrying Robert MacIntyre’s bag when he wins The Open. That would be the ultimate job.”

There have been speculations that Murray might aim to qualify for The Open in the future, but he dismissed those notions promptly. “I have no aspirations to play in The Open,” he clarified. “I aim to participate in the regional qualifying at some point, just for the experience. I understand the vast gap in skill between amateurs like me and professional Tour players.”

In sports broadcasting news, Sky has reduced the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, offering savings of £336 and showcasing over 1,400 live matches across various leagues, including the Premier League and EFL. Sky will broadcast at least 215 live Premier League matches next season, representing an increase of up to 100 games.
