Evil former physician Thomas Kwan faced a brutal assault while in jail just before confessing to the attempted murder of his mother’s partner, Patrick O’Hara. Kwan, masquerading as a Covid nurse, nearly killed O’Hara by administering a fake vaccine tainted with a potentially deadly insecticide, following a dispute over his mother’s will.
Initially, Kwan tried to poison O’Hara and his son-in-law, Torquil Gundlach, with thallium-laced alcohol, almost fatally harming both victims. Gundlach, recounting the terrifying experience, expressed concern for his children upon discovering a poisoned bottle of vodka in his possession, gifted by Kwan from a fabricated ‘gentlemen’s wine and drink club.’
While awaiting trial for attempted murder, Kwan suffered severe injuries in a prison altercation and was subsequently transferred from HMP Hull to Frankland prison in Durham. Sources reported Kwan’s battered appearance, noting his decision to change his plea to guilty due to the assault. Serving a life sentence with a minimum term of 31 and a half years, Kwan faces additional time for confessing to a second murder attempt on O’Hara and the poisoning of Gundlach.
Kwan, restricted from seeking parole until the age of 73, retains the support of his wife despite his actions. She expressed unwavering loyalty to him, stating her belief in his innocence and commitment to standing by him until the end. Kwan’s aspirations of acquiring a prestigious GP practice in Torquay and his substantial NHS pension contrast starkly with his criminal behavior, which jeopardized the lives of others for personal gain.
The inheritance dispute, intertwined with Kwan’s nefarious schemes, led to a series of events culminating in violence and betrayal. The dramatic turn of events involving poisoned drinks and attempted murders painted a chilling picture of Kwan’s descent into criminality, contrasting sharply with his prior professional standing as a respected medical practitioner.
