A racehorse trainer from Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia, has been disqualified after engaging in inappropriate behavior towards a racing steward during an inspection. Garry Lunn, a seasoned trainer with a track record of over 500 wins, including more than 100 at the local Dubbo racecourse, faced repercussions following a confrontation with racing steward Xavier Dalton.
During a stable audit inspection in September, discrepancies in stable return records were noted, prompting a follow-up inspection by Dalton the next month. Lunn’s demeanor turned hostile during this visit, with him hurling derogatory remarks and expletives at Dalton, including calling him the “dopiest steward” and other offensive language.
The situation escalated when Lunn continued his verbal abuse towards Dalton even after the steward attempted to leave the premises. The inquiry report highlighted Lunn’s obstructive behavior and use of improper and insulting language towards Dalton, leading to charges against him.
Despite denying the allegations, Lunn was found guilty of obstructing Dalton from performing his duties and engaging in inappropriate conduct. As a result, he received a three-month disqualification for the first offense and a nine-month disqualification for the second offense, with the terms running concurrently from November 14, 2025, to August 14, 2026.
