A woman working at a daycare has been taken into custody and accused of causing a three-month-old baby to suffer a broken arm, officials reported. Ashley Karschnick, aged 32, allegedly became frustrated with the infant’s continuous crying whenever she touched her, leading her to forcefully push the baby against a crib, resulting in the arm fracture.
Charged with a felony count of child abuse for recklessly causing harm, Karschnick’s alleged actions occurred at Lily Pad Day Care in Fond du Lac. According to law enforcement, they were alerted when the baby girl was admitted to a children’s hospital with a fractured arm. Medical records indicated a specific type of fracture consistent with physical abuse.
Following the incident, an investigation ensued, including interviews and surveillance footage review. Karschnick was reportedly on duty in the baby room at the daycare at the time in question. Reports suggest that surveillance footage revealed her growing frustration throughout the day.
The incident causing the baby’s arm injury supposedly happened around 12:30 p.m., as per Express.com. The video allegedly captured Karschnick lifting and forcefully placing the infant into the crib, causing a noticeable impact. Moments later, she attempted to soothe the crying baby without success.
Despite video evidence, Karschnick denied the accusations, suggesting the rocking of the crib was accidental. When questioned about the baby’s cries, she claimed it was a reaction to the baby’s response to her touch. Karschnick is currently held in custody after posting a bond of $2,500 (£1,916). In a recent court appearance, her request to modify bond conditions to allow her in public places with children was denied.
