In a remote area of Cornwall, Connecticut, lies the eerie ghost town known as Dudleytown, nestled within the foreboding Dark Entry Forest. This abandoned settlement is rumored to be cursed, drawing parallels to the unsettling storyline of the 1999 horror film, The Blair Witch Project.
The history of Dudleytown dates back to the 1740s when it was founded by Thomas Griffis, followed by Gideon, Barzillai, Abiel, and Martin Dudley. Initially home to a small community, Dudleytown began to decline in the 19th century as residents gradually left for new horizons.
The town’s descent into darkness accelerated with the arrival of Nathaniel Carter, whose family tragically succumbed to cholera. Subsequent mysterious deaths, including that of Gershon Hollister and Sara Faye Swift, shrouded Dudleytown in a veil of fear and sadness.
By 1900, Dudleytown was devoid of inhabitants, fueling speculation of a curse stemming from a historical beheading of a Dudley descendant in England. In the 1990s, the area became a target for vandals and thrill-seekers, exacerbated by the popularity of The Blair Witch Project.
Described as a real-life Village of the Damned, Dudleytown is believed to harbor poltergeist activity and bring misfortune to those who trespass. To deter unwanted visitors, the landowners have closed off access, making it illegal to visit the forsaken town, now safeguarded as private property.
