Renowned chef Mary Berry is currently tending to her husband following a recent accident that resulted in broken ribs. Despite the setback, she expressed that the ordeal has brought them even closer.
Mary, who has been married to 93-year-old Paul for nearly six decades, shared with Saga magazine that she is devoted to supporting him through his recovery. She emphasized the deepening of their bond, stating, “I love my husband more now than ever. Taking care of him in his current state brings me immense joy as he appreciates my efforts wholeheartedly.”
Acknowledging the challenges of aging, Mary highlighted the loss of friends in their nineties. She expressed empathy for those who are without their partners, underscoring the significance of their companionship.
Once Paul, a former antique book seller, is back in good health, the couple plans to resume their twice-weekly croquet games to stay active. Mary mentioned her admiration for her husband’s sporting background and their shared enjoyment of playing together.
Stressing the importance of staying active for longevity, Mary credited her genes for her vitality, citing her routine of walking her beloved working cocker spaniels, Darcey and Freddie.
Having tied the knot with Paul in 1966, Mary divulged that the key to their enduring marriage lies in avoiding arguments. She humorously shared Paul’s tactic of saying “Yes, dear” and then parting ways to maintain harmony.
Reflecting on their journey together, Mary expressed gratitude for the happiness they find in their later years. She affirmed her commitment to caring for Paul, embodying the vows they exchanged decades ago.
Mary Berry will be making a return to television screens in the upcoming BBC series “Mary at 90: A Lifetime of Cooking,” as detailed in the November issue of Saga Magazine.
