Apple’s AirTag has become a must-have for those who frequently misplace their belongings. Launched in 2021, these small trackers have gained popularity for their ability to pinpoint lost items on a map. AirTags are compact and versatile, easily attachable to keys, bags, laptop cases, or luggage.
The latest AirTag model boasts an upgraded Ultra Wideband chip, offering an enhanced range. Apple claims that this advancement increases Precision Finding by up to 50%, making it simpler to locate lost items from greater distances. Moreover, Precision Finding is now compatible with select Apple Watch models, allowing users to track misplaced items directly from their wrist.
Apple has also enhanced the new AirTag’s audio capabilities with a redesigned internal speaker that produces sounds 50% louder than its predecessor. This feature is beneficial for locating the AirTag in hard-to-reach places like under furniture or amidst clutter.
AirTags operate through Apple’s Find My network, which leverages nearby Apple devices to relay location updates anonymously. The system prioritizes privacy, as AirTags do not retain location history on the device and utilize end-to-end encryption for all communication with the Find My network, ensuring only the owner has access to the item’s location.
Additionally, the new AirTag integrates seamlessly with Share Item Location, an iOS function enabling users to securely share an item’s location with trusted individuals, such as airlines, to aid in recovering lost belongings like delayed luggage. Apple has partnered with over 50 airlines to support this feature.
The latest AirTag model is now available for purchase on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability expected soon. Prices start at £29 for a single AirTag and £99 for a pack of four, offering a more affordable option compared to the original release price of £35.
