The recent passing of Hayden Panettiere has been determined as accidental and linked to the “toxic effects” of a combination of substances, including fentanyl, by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office. The well-known actress, famous for her roles in television series such as “Heroes” and “Nashville,” passed away on August 16 at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, where she was staying.
Upon the arrival of emergency responders at the location, Panettiere was discovered in cardiac arrest, and their attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful, as disclosed by the office. After a collaborative investigation by the Coroner’s Office and the Greenville City Police Department, it was confirmed in an official statement to CBC News that the cause of death was attributed to the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol, and Quetiapine.
Quetiapine is a medication used to treat conditions like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression, while Alprazolam is utilized for anxiety and panic disorders. Methocarbamol acts as a muscle relaxant, and 4-ANPP is connected to the production of fentanyl, a potent opioid.
During the autopsy, it was noted that there were no signs of trauma that could have led to Panettiere’s death. The Associated Press revealed that she had been discharged from a rehab facility in Malibu, California, shortly before her demise. Panettiere, who passed away shortly before turning 37, had openly shared her struggles with early fame, addiction, and mental health issues, including postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter in 2014. She had spoken candidly about her life in interviews and her recent memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning.”
Following her death, an outpouring of tributes and memories from colleagues and admirers emerged. Additionally, the incident reignited past criticisms directed at skincare brand Neutrogena, as Panettiere had been their global brand ambassador and spokesperson for nearly a decade before her daughter’s birth. Allegations were made that the company terminated her contract after she began discussing her battle with postpartum depression.
