“Gordie Howe Bridge Sees Surge in Traffic Post Opening”

Statistics Canada reported that in the initial days following its opening, tens of thousands of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada. The bridge, linking Windsor and Detroit, finally opened to traffic on July 27 after facing delays. According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were 18,900 return trips made by Canadian residents from the U.S. via the Gordie Howe bridge within the first five days of operation. Similarly, 18,100 U.S. residents traveled across the bridge to enter Canada during the same timeframe.

In comparison, the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel witnessed a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadian and U.S. residents in the same period. Moreover, commercial transport trucks made 4,100 trips to Canada via the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
